Abscisic acid as a potential chemical thinner for peach PAB

Abstract:The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of abscisic acid, applied at different rates and different fruit developmental stages, on the thinning of 'Chiripá' peach. Abscisic acid (ABA) at 500 mg L-1 was applied at three stages of fruit development based on lignin deposition: stage 1, at 24 days after full bloom (DAFB); stage 2, at 40 DAFB; and stage 3, at 52 DAFB. Only ABA application at stage 2 - 40 DAFB - reduced fruit set and the number of fruit per plant. Three ABA concentrations (350, 500, and 750 mg L-1) were then applied at 40 DAFB. All rates increased fruit ethylene production and fruit abscission.

Chemical thinning of 'BRS Kampai' peach trees PAB

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of thinning with metamitron on the fruit yield and quality of 'BRS Kampai' peach (Prunus persica) trees. The experiment was carried out in the municipality of Eldorado do Sul, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in the 2016 and 2017 crop years. Treatments consisted of the application of 100, 200, 300, and 400 mg L-1 metamitron and of hand thinning 40 days after full bloom, besides control plants. Fruit abscission, effective fructification, number of fruits, and fruit yield per plant were evaluated. Cost/Benefit of Abscission Registration for Citrus Mechanical Harvesting AgEcon

The Florida Department of Citrus (DOC) is spending public funds to register an abscission agent compound (CMNP) with the U.S. EPA as part of its effort to enhance the private benefits associated with citrus mechanical harvesting. An abscission agent application should allow existing harvesting equipment to operate through the entire late season orange harvesting period. When estimating costs and benefits through 2018, the net present value of mechanically harvesting 25,000 acres is between $60.8 and $79.9 million, depending on price, production, and fruit loss scenarios. For any of the scenarios considered, the discounted value of abscission benefits with mechanical harvesting fully pays for the costs of registration and development within four years.

Abstract: Olive is harvested mainly by hand in the Mediterranean. This resulted in steady rising of harvesting cost due to shortage of skilled labors at harvesting time. Operation cost might be reduced and harvesting processes will be carried out on time if mechanical harvesters are used. Longevity of Epidendrum ibaguense inflorescences influenced by the storage temperature and ethylene inhibitor BABT

This work had the goal to evaluate the influence of temperature and dry storage on the postharvest longevity of Epidendrum ibaguense flowers previously treated with silver thiosulfate (STS). The flowers were harvested and pulsed for 30 minutes with 2 mM STS. Then both, the STS treated and untreated flowers were packed in perforated low density polyethylene bags, packed in cardboard boxes and stored at 5 and 10°C, where they remained for four and eight days. After this period, the flowers were kept in vase with distilled water at 25ºC, and analyzed at every 24 h. Low temperature storage of NAA, GA3 and 2,4-D treated citrus budsticks Scientia Agricola

Cold storage allows citrus budstick conservation for several months, although gradual bud viability loss and abscission of leaf petioles is observed. This study aimed to maintain bud viability reducing leaf petiole abscission in budsticks of 'Baianinha' and 'Valencia' sweet oranges (C. sinensis Osbeck), 'Tahiti' lime (C. latifolia Tanaka), and 'Murcott' tangor (C. sinensis × C. reticulata), using NAA, GA3, 2,4-D, and low temperature storage. Mechanical damage in cotton buds caused by the boll weevil PAB

The boll weevil (Anthonomus grandis Boheman) causes high levels of bud abscission in cotton plants due to feeding or oviposition punctures. It has been reported that abscission is mainly due to enzymes present in the insect's saliva, but mechanical damage could also contribute to square abscission. The objective of this paper was to undertake an analysis of the morphological damages caused by the insect in cotton squares using microscopy. Anthers and ovules are the main target of boll weevil feeding. The process initiates by perforation of young sepal and petal tissues and proceeds with subsequent alimentation on stamen and ovary leading to abscission of floral structures.
